On September 6, 2007, the inaugural Summer Davos Forum was held in Dalian, Liaoning Province.
The Davos Forum, also known as the World Economic Forum, was founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, then a professor of business policy at the University of Geneva.
The Davos Forum is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and is a non-profit organisation established as a foundation. It holds its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland at the beginning of each year, hence the name.
The Summer Davos Forum in 2007 was the first global meeting of the Davos Forum that was held outside of Davos. The summer forum is regularly held in Dalian, Tianjin or other cities in China.
The theme of the first Summer Davos Forum was "The Changing Power Equation." Wen Jiabao (溫家寶), the then Premier of the State Council of China, attended the opening ceremony and gave a speech.
He stated that China's development cannot be separated from the world, and the world also needs China for its development. Wen Jiabao reiterated that China's open policy towards foreign countries would never change and China advocated handling trade frictions properly through consultations and collaborations.
